Blockboard is composed of a core of solid wood strips (usually pine) and the lining in one or two layers of veneer (hardwood or softwood) on each side. Some manufacturers offer blockboards with linings of other wood materials, eg. A thin chipboard or HDF. The blockboard system symmetry is maintained by veneer of fibers in relation to its core. Commonly used binder is amino resins (urea-formaldehyde, melamine-urea-formaldehyde) and phenol-formaldehyde.
Due to the high quality of blockboard surface, except from sanding, seldom other methods of finishing are applied, though it is possibe to refine the surface with the use of laminate ( CPL,HPL, melamine foil). plastic veneer ( on paper, foil), natural veneer and covering with painting and varnishing material.
The average density of blockboard is 500-800 kg / m3
Depending on the moisture resistance class we can distinquish dry lasting blockboard to use in dry conditions, and waterproof blockboard to use in outdoor conditions. Based on the surface look we can distinguish two types of blockboards: I and II.
